Unterman, Isaar Yehudah
(1886-1976)
   Israeli rabbi and scholar. He was born in Brest-Litovsk, Belorussia. He served as rosh yeshivah in Vishova, Lithuania, and later as a rabbi in various Lithuanian communities. After moving to England, he became rabbi of Liverpool in 1924. In 1946 he was appointed chief rabbi to the Ashkenazi community in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, and in 1964 Ashkenazi chief rabbi of Israel. His writings include Shevet mi-Yehudah on problems of Jewish law.
